Rust

Rust is caused by the oxidation of metal as a result of some form of exposure to moisture. It must be treated before attempting to paint!

 

There are a number of rust treatment products available on the market. Personally I find Owatrol™ oil excellent in treating and preparing rusted areas.

 

Step 1 - Scrape off loose paint and sand to remove loose dust.

 

Step 2 - Wipe with a damp cloth and allow to dry.

 

Step 3 – Apply Owatrol™ oil to rust-affected areas and allow to dry thoroughly.

 

Step 4 – Prime if necessary

 

Step 5 - Paint as normal
