Adhesive Damage

A fairly common problem is where emulsion paint on a wall has been damaged when a fixture which was stuck on with adhesive has been removed.

In the example below a plastic conduit with a self-adhesive backing had been stuck onto the wall. When it was removed it left the damage you see in the photo...

damaged paint from adhesive

The solution is straightforward...

Step 1.   Get something like a piece of hardboard and squeeze out an appropriate
             amount of acrylic filler

mix acrylic

Step 2.   Sprinkle some water onto the filler and mix it in. This makes the filler
thinner and easier to apply – you are only filling to a depth of 1 or 2
            millimetres

Step 3.   Take a broad-blade filler knife and smooth into the damaged area

Step 4.    Let it dry. Repeat if necessary

Step 5.   Paint carefully with emulsion paint
